Exams
Students will sit exams during Year 10 and 11. Most students will take GCSEs and possibly others such as BTEC, Functional Skills and ECDL IT. Exams take place mainly in May-June although some are taken at other times of the year.
In most GCSE courses students will complete controlled assessments, which are examined tasks completed during the course. These assessments give students an opportunity to show what they know about a certain topic or area of a given subject.
Controlled Assessment has controls which determine how and where students complete their assessments and what resources they may use.
These controls mean that:
- all students complete their assessments in the same way
- assessments are fairer and more reliable
- students get the marks they deserve
